Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
  
Preferred:

Specimen Type: Plasma

Container/Tube: Light-green top (lithium heparin)

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Spin down unopened (vacuum intact) tube within 45 minutes of draw.

2. Label specimen as plasma.

 

Note: Plasma is stable for testing for 3 days refrigerated or 3 months frozen. Testing will not be performed on specimens more than 3 days old.

 

Alternate (Non-Hospital Patient):

Specimen Type: Serum

Container/Tube: Gold top, serum gel

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Spin down unopened (vacuum intact) tube within 45 minutes of draw.

2. Label specimen as serum.

 

Note: Serum is stable for 3 days refrigerated or 3 months frozen. Testing will not be performed on specimens more than 3 days old.

180-920 pg/mL (normal)

145-180 pg/mL (intermediate)

<145 pg/mL (deficient)
