Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
  
Specimen Type: Plasma

Container/Tube: Light-green top (lithium heparin)

Specimen Volume: 2 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Spin down unopened (vacuum intact) tube within 45 minutes of draw.

2. Avoid hemolysis.

3. Label specimen as plasma.

 

Specimen Type: Serum

Container/Tube: Gold top, serum gel

Specimen Volume: 2 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Spin down unopened (vacuum intact) tube within 45 minutes of draw.

2. Avoid hemolysis.

3. Label specimen as serum.

Males

0-29 days: 100-250 µg/dL

1 month-11 years: 50-120 µg/dL

≥12 years: 45-180 µg/dL

Females

0-29 days: 100-250 µg/dL

1 month-11 years: 50-120 µg/dL

≥12 years: 30-170 µg/dL

 

TRANSFERRIN SATURATION

0-160 years: 24%-49%

 

TRANSFERRIN

0-160 years: 185-340 mg/dL
