Day(s) Test Set Up

Testing available Monday through Friday from 07:00-14:30.

Routine: Specimens must be recieved in lab by 14:30 p.m. each day.  Samples recieved after 14:30 will be run the next day.  Samples received after 14:30 on Friday will be run on Monday.

STAT: Samples may be run on evening shift or on the weekend, only with approval from the Hematology or Transfusion Medicine LMR (314-747-1320), option 5.

Reference Values

Percent Activity >60%

The following Interpretation will appear with all testing. ADAMTS13 activity less than 10 percent may be associated with either inherited (Upshaw-Schulman Syndrome) or acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP).  A variety of medical conditions may result in a mild to moderate deficiency of ADAMTS13 activity. Recent plasma exchange therapy may increase the observed ADAMTS13 activity.

This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Barnes Jewish Hospital Laboratories. The U. S. Food and Drug Administration has not approved or cleared this test; however, FDA clearance or approval is not currently required for clinical use. The results are not intended to be used as the sole means for clinical diagnosis or patient management decisions

Reflex ADAMTS-13 Inhibitor(LAB5620)  - Added automatically when Activity is <20%

Test Classification and CPT Coding

85397 ADAMTS-13 Activity

85335 Reflex ADAMTS13 Inhibitor(LAB5620)

83520 Reflex ADAMTS-13 Antibody(LAB5619)

If ADAMTS13 Activity is <20% per inpatient hospital admission, a Reflex ADAMTS13 Inhibitor will be added on and sent to Verisiti Lab at an additional charge.

If the ADAMTS-13 inhibitor is negative (≤0.4) or low positive (0.4-0.7), Versiti will perform a Reflex ADAMTS-13 Antibody test.
