Test Code LA Lactate (Lactic Acid), Whole Blood

Important Note

Note: Do not confuse this test with #LD Lactate Dehydrogenase (LD), Body Fluid or Plasma.

 

Lactate samples should be received in lab and performed within 30 minutes of collection.

    A. Samples received within 15 minutes of collection may be received on wet ice or at room

         temp.

    B. Samples received between 15-30 minutes of collection must be received on wet ice.

    C. Samples received greater than 30 minutes after collection will be rejected.

Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

Specimen Type: whole blood

Container/Tube: Green top (Lithium heparinized whole blood)

Specimen Volume: 2 ml

Specimen Minimum Volume: 1ml

 

Specimen Type: Spinal fluid
Container/Tube: Plastic vial

Specimen Volume: 5 mL

Collection Instructions: Label specimen as spinal fluid.

Reference Values

0.7-2.0 mmol/L
