Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive within 12 hours of collection.

 

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube: 10-mL green top (sodium heparin)-Lithium heparin is not acceptable.

Specimen Volume: Full tube

Specimen Minimum Volume: 10 mL

Additional Information:

1. Do not refrigerate.

2. If WBC count or % lymphocytes is reduced or elevated, please call Barnes-Jewish Hospital HLA Laboratory at 314-362-5322. Additional blood may be necessary if WBC count is abnormal.

3. For bone marrow patients, please include current diagnosis, WBC count, and differential, if available.

4. Family groups being typed must be scheduled at least 3 days in advance.

Additional Information: This specimen type is appropriate for deceased donors only.
