Note: A glucose value of >140 mg/dL generally indicates the need for a full diagnostic tolerance test.
Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Plasma
Container/Tube: Light-green top (lithium heparin)
Specimen Volume: 2 mL
Collection Instructions:
Glucola should be ingested within 5 minutes. If patient cannot finish the drink, or vomits, test is invalid and will need to be repeated.
1. Draw blood 1 hour after 50 g dose of dextrose (without regard to time of day and consumption of last meal).
2. Avoid hemolysis.
