Specimen Requirements

Collect only 1 urine specimen per day. Multiple specimen orders should be collected on consecutive days. Multiple specimen orders collected on same day will be combined.

Specimen Type: Urine

Container/Tube: Screw top container with PreservCyt Solution or Cytolyt fixative/Specimen may be sent fresh. Twenty-four hour urines are not accepted.
Specimen Volume: Full container

Collection Instructions:

1. Pour urine into screw-capped container with Cytolyt fixative until full.
2. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen (voided or catheterized).

3. If sending fresh, refrigerate specimen immediately.
