Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive within 4 hours of collection.

Specimen Type: Body fluid

Container/Tube: Sterile container

Specimen Volume: 2 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Immediately place specimen in a lavender top (EDTA) tube after collection.

2. Indicate source of specimen on specimen container and request form.

Specimen Type: Spinal fluid

Container/Tube: Sterile vial

Specimen Volume: 2 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Immediately place specimen in a lavender top (EDTA) tube if spinal tap is bloody.

2. Indicate source of specimen on specimen container and request form.
