Flow Cytometry
Useful for monitoring HIV infection.

Note: WBC count is only performed if WBC and lymphocyte counts are not available.

Specimen Requirements

EDTA and ACD whole blood are required.

 

Specimen must arrive within 24 hours of draw. 

 

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA) and yellow top (ACD)

Specimen Volume: 2 Full tubes

Collection Instructions:

1. Do not refrigerate or freeze.

2. Send specimen in original tubes.

WBC: 5.0-10.0 K/mm3
Lymphocytes %: 16.0-52.0%
Lymphocytes #: 1,200-3,500 cells/µL
Helper T-cells (CD4) %: 29-59%
Helper T-cells (CD4) #: 348-2,065 cells/µL
Suppressor T-cells (CD8) %: 12-43%
Suppressor T-cells (CD8) #: 144-1,505 cells/µL
CD4:CD8 ratio: 0.7-3.5
