Timed End point
Ammonia is an end product of metabolism found in small amounts in the blood. Elevated levels are found in patients with impaired liver function.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Plasma

Container/Tube: Lavender top

Specimen Volume: 3 mL

Collection Instructions: Place specimen on wet ice immediately after draw.  Must be separated from cells, and analyzed immediately.

Specimen must arrive in the laboratory within 20-30 minutes of draw. 

 

Non Hospital Patient:

Due to specimen stability, please have patient drawn at a hospital campus draw site. Specimen should not be drawn at off-site draw facilities. 

For Internal use only (NW):  Spin and separate specimen, and freeze plasma.  Send stat, on dry ice, with courier.
