Albumin is the most abundant protein in the human body and is known as the carrier protein because of its ability to bind and transport ligands.

Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Preferred:
Specimen Type: Plasma
Container/Tube: Light-green top (lithium heparin)
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Spin down unopened (vacuum intact) tube within 2 hours of draw.
2. Avoid hemolysis.
Alternate (Non-Hospital Patient):
Specimen Type: Serum
Container/Tube: Gold top, serum gel
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Spin down unopened (vacuum intact) tube within 2 hours of draw.
2. Avoid hemolysis.
Reference Values
≥1 year: 3.2-4.8 g/dL
3mo-1yr: 2.7-5.0 g/dL
1mo-3mo: 3.0-4.2 g/dL
