Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Fluid (ascites, pericardial, peritoneal, or pleural

Container/Tube: Screw-capped container or vacuum specimen bottle

Specimen Volume: Adequate sampling

Collection Instructions:

1. No fixation is required.

2. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date of birth, date and time of collection, and source of specimen.

Additional Information: If cellular material is adequate, a cell block will be made.
