Chemiluminescence Enzyme ImmunoassaySpecimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Specimen Type: Plasma
Container/Tube: Green top (heparin) or lavender top (EDTA)
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Fasting
2. Spin down within 2 hours of draw and transfer a minimum of 1 mL of cell-free heparinized or EDTA plasma to a plastic vial. Tightly cap vial immediately.
3. Store tightly capped specimen at ambient temperature (15° C-30° C) for no longer than 4 hours.
4. If assay will not be completed within 4 hours, refrigerate specimen at 2° C to 8° C for no longer than 8 hours.
5. If assay will not be completed within 8 hours, or for shipment of specimen, freeze at ≤20° C for no longer than 6 months.
6. Label specimen as plasma.
Specimen Type: Serum
Container/Tube: Gold top, serum gel
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Fasting
2. Spin down within 2 hours of draw and transfer a minimum of 1 mL of cell-free serum to a plastic vial.
6. Label specimen as serum.
Reference Values
12-65 pg/mLIn the presence of normal renal function and hypercalcemia, an intact PTH level of >65 pg/mL is highly suggestive of primary hyperparathyroidism.
