Specimen Requirements

Patient Preparation:

Patient should be fasting (12-14 hours, overnight).

 

Specimen must arrive and be processed within 4 hours of draw.

 

Specimen Type: Serum

Container/Tube: Plain red top for each specimen

Specimen Volume: Full tube

 

Collection Instructions:

1. Draw 2 specimens before secretin infusion. Two gastrin results are averaged for baseline.

2. Administer 0.2 mcg of secretin intravenous (IV) to test for allergy.

3. Administer 0.4 mcg/kg of secretin IV over 1 minute.

4. Draw specimens at 2-, 5-, 10- and 20-minutes after completion of infusion of secretin.

1. Draw times are required.

2. Label specimens appropriately (baseline-1, baseline-2, and additional corresponding draw times.)

3. Test performed is #1614 Gastrin, Serum.

Laboratory Processing Instructions:
Test performed in BJH Chemistry. Test performed is #1614 Gastrin, Serum. Immediately spin, separate into two 12x75 pour-off tubes. If before 1000 take 1 tube to IMMULITE, and freeze second tube at -70° C. If specimen is received after 1000 or on a weekend, freeze both tubes at -70° C. Specimen must be processed within 4 hours of draw.
