Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Specimen Type: Plasma

Container/Tube: Light-green top (lithium heparin)

Specimen Volume: 2 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Draw a Fasting Glucose specimen
2. Administer 75 g of glucose solution orally to nonpregnant adults. Pregnant females should receive 100 g of glucose (see GTT 100g Gestational test). Glucola should be ingested within 5 minutes, If patient cannot ingest entire bottle in 5 minutes, or vomits, test will need to be repeated. Children should be seen at NW Lab for proper dosing. 
3. Subsequent specimen should be drawn at 2-hours after administration of dose.
4. Label specimens appropriately (with corresponding draw time).

Container/Tube: Gold top, serum gel

Specimen Volume: 2 mL

Collection Instructions:

Reference Values

Fasting normal: 70-99 mg/dL

2 hour normal: 70-139 mg/dL

Abnormal interpretive values will be provided
