Note: This test is also available as part of #BMP Basic Metabolic Panel, #COMP Comprehensive Metabolic Panel, and #RENAL Renal Function Panel. See Common Panel Test Combinations in Special Instructions to avoid duplicate test requests when multiple panels are ordered.
Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Specimen Type: Plasma

Specimen Volume: 2 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Fasting (12-14 hour)
2. Spin down unopened (vacuum intact) tube within 45 minutes of draw.
3. Avoid hemolysis.

3. Avoid hemolysis.
4. Label specimen as serum.
Alternate (Outreach-Home Health):

Reference Values
PLASMA OR SERUM
1mo-160yrs: 70-199 mg/dL
2 dys-1mo: 50-80 mg/dL
0-2dys: 40-60 mg/dL
Note: Either a fasting plasma glucose > 126 mg/dL or a random glucose >200 mg/dL plus symptoms is diagnostic for diabetes when confirmed on another day. Fasting values >100 mg/dl but <125 mg/dl are diagnostic for impaired fasting glucose.
Critical values (automatic call-back): ≤50 mg/dL or ≥450 mg/dL
