Flow Cytometry

The DNA ploidy of solid tumors has been shown to be helpful in determining the prognosis for patients with certain tumors. The following are available: bladder (transitional cell-grades 1 and 2) carcinoma, node-negative breast carcinoma, intermediate grade (Duke’s B2 and C) colon carcinoma, endometrial carcinoma, prostate carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma, and thyroid carcinoma.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Bladder, breast, colon, endometrium, kidney, prostate, or thyroid

Container/Tube: Paraffin-embedded specimen block

Specimen Volume: Representative tumor

Collection Instructions: Whenever possible, send equivalent non-neoplastic tissue to serve as an internal reference.

Additional Information: Tumor description, diagnosis, and pathologist’s name, address, and telephone number are required.
